As one of the oldest Polish cities with a rich history of over a thousand years, it abounds in tourist attractions and delights with historic architecture. In addition, we pride ourself on being one of the most beautiful cities in Poland, eagerly visited by tourists from all over the world.
The Old Town is the oldest area
of the Royal Capital City of Krakow. The center is situated in the Main Market Square, and the second important point is the rock on the Vistula River, known as the Wawel Hill. The main monuments of Krakow’s Old Town are located on the Market Square: St. Mary’s Church, the Cloth Hall, and the Town Hall Tower. The Old Town is surrounded by a green belt called Planty, which was built on the site of the former moat.
It is also a lively district full of traditional Polish restaurants, hotels, antiques, and souvenir shops. The gothic St. Mary’s Basilica and the Cloth Hall - a Renaissance market hall, are located in the bustling 13th-century Main Market Square. The area has simple pubs, craft beer and vodka venues, and jazz clubs.
The Wawel Royal Castle together with the Wawel Hill are one of the most historically and culturally significant places in Poland.
For centuries, the seat of Polish kings and a symbol of statehood, in 1930 the Castle also became one of the most important museums in Poland. It houses collections of paintings, graphics, sculptures, fabrics, goldsmiths, militaria, porcelain, and furniture. The chambers exhibit the famous tapestries of Zygmunt August and wonderful Italian Renaissance paintings from the Lanckoroński collection, while the Wawel cabinet of eastern art contain the most important and largest collection of tents in Europe. The Royal Castle is also a major center for the conservation of works of art. Permanent exhibitions recreate the design of Renaissance and Baroque rooms.
Krakow is a city with a thousand-year history, the former seat of Polish kings and the capital of the country, and today one of the most important European metropolises. Krakow’s Old Town comprises a unique treasury of works of art, historical memorabilia and monuments that represent almost all architectural styles - from the Middle Ages to modern times.
In 2019, Krakow was visited by 14,050,000 people, according to research conducted by the Małopolska Tourist Organization for the Kraków City Hall.
